Healthcare Career Pathway

MC2 High School now offers Healthcare Career Pathway integrated into science classes for all students. Healthcare Career Pathways integrates academic, technical and 21st century skills into the high school science curriculum to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of careers in the healthcare profession. 

Healthcare Career Pathway

  • Students learn through core coursework, project groups, reflections, field trips, case studies and schoolwide service projects
  • Students are offered enhanced opportunities to learn skills necessary for a career path in healthcare-related fields
  • All students will earn 7 credits and a certificate in Healthcare Customer Service from MATC during their 12th grade year at MC2
    • This certificate includes instruction in medical terminology, healthcare computing and customer service skills related to working in a healthcare setting
    • Students earning this certificate will be prepared for entry-level customer service positions in the healthcare industry
    • After completing this certificate, a variety of educational pathway opportunities are available including Phlebotomy, Pharmacy Technician, Dental Assistant, Healthcare Services Management, and Anesthesia Technology 

Benefits to Students

Students will be exposed to careers in the healthcare field and once completed, students will be able reference their Healthcare Customer Service Certificate on their resume, during interviews, and on college applications. 

Sequence of courses for Healthcare Career Pathways 

  • 9th / 10th grade biology, Introduction to Healthcare Careers, and anatomy and physiology

  • 11th grade chemistry

  • 12th grade MATC classes at MC2 High School 
    • Medical Terminology 101 (3 credits)
    • Culture of Healthcare 104 (2 credits)
    • Digital Literacy for Healthcare 107 (2 credits)
